The overall objective of the project is to encourage municipalities to establish partnerships and regional networks to address issues of common concern, consolidate and improve good governance standards, and develop new approaches to current and future challenges in local governance. Furthermore, the project aims to increase efficiency and effectiveness of municipal services and their functionality in order to create business enabling environment and improve citizens living conditions and standards including supporting job generation and inter-ethnic communication and cooperation for better Kosovo future.
Specific objectives of the project are to identify new opportunities for cooperation between new minority municipalities and existing municipalities, improve inter-municipal cooperation and communication as well as exchange, share and promote cross municipal initiatives, and encourage municipalities to identify and meet their own development needs.
During 2016, three reports were drafted (one on waste management, one on environmental protection and one on local markets) and were presented in three forums. The main purpose of the forums was to encourage inter-ethnic initiatives. The reports presented the current situation regarding inter-ethnic initiatives for each municipality, regional best practices in inter-municipal cooperation and few opportunities for inter-municipal cooperation in Kosovo.
